Matt Picks a Jim Song
The Ethical Debating Society caught me at a time when I was ready to rock out, but I ultimately have to give the honor to Pterodactyl’s Magik Markers-cum-Battles noise beat.
This also seems like as good a forum as any to point out that if you’ve been enjoying the blog lately (and a decent amount of you are, if our page stats are to be believed), y’all should give Jim a big thanks for making this thing a real labor of love over the past few months. He’s really made things work while I’ve reduced my music nerddom to a part-time hobby due to work/travel/other 30 year old adult(ish) real-life shit. I should be able to start pulling my weight once things settle in, but til then it’s Jim’s ship to steer.
Jim Picks a Matt Song
I sound like a broken record but another week of great songs from Matt. I liked the live tune from It’s a Place to Bury Strangers. And I really liked Gun Outfit as well. But I think Rats on Rafts hits the right note, with the clever band name as well as the great song.
7″ Highlight – Melkbelly’s BATB
On Tuesday, we highlighted the new 7″ from Melkbelly. Singing about the Bathroom at the Beach, this noisy pop from Chicago is excellent. Read the post here or listen below.
10″ Highlight – Bouquet’s In a Dream
This was a busy week for highlighting newish music releases. We won’t do this one every week, but when we find a great 10″ release we’ll make sure to highlight it. This week was Bouquet who brought this mega-dreamy relaxing indie pop. Really, listening to In a Dream is very much like living In a Dream. Read the post here or listen below.
LP Highlight – Conspiración Autista’s LP
As a sort of last punch follow up to the Drunk Radio Shower, we highlighted the new release from Conspiración Autista. This lp is just phenomenal if you like a sort of screamo post-rock. Check out our post or listen below.
International Radio Shower
We also launched a new feature focused on music from different countries. In August, we have a 4-part series on music from Greece. Check out our first post featuring Acid Baby Jesus and Nefeli Walking Undercover.
Sunday, August 2nd Radio Show Playlist
Besides pulling out a few of our new discoveries from last week’s Drunk Radio Shower, we also featured Janitor Joe, new Widowspeak, and two bands named Gunk. Check out the full playlist here.
