Welcome to another edition of the Interstellar Radio Shower Week in Review. Here in we pick the favorite song posted by the other (ie. Jim picks his favorite Matt song, and Matt his favorite Jim song) and we say why it’s our fav. Also, quick summaries of our other long posts for the week. Basically, herein we navel gaze.
Jim Picks a Matt Song
The Deerhunter is, of course, great. The Destruction Unit is, of course, amazing. But i’ve propped them up before and this Sex Swing song is pretty damn fantastic.
Matt Picks a Jim Song
I think I tipped my hand earlier this week when I tweeted about it, but Center of the Sun’s cover of Slowdive’s “Machine Gun” is a pretty epic take on what was an already beautiful song. As a bonus, stick around to hear their version Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You” that plays right after. (Very) honorable mentions go to Circuit Des Yeux, Ghost Hippies, and Swearin’.

A continuation of my exploration into Greece music. Each month, the Discovering Interstellar Music feature will explore interesting (to us) music from around the world. I found lots of Psychadelic rock in my brief Grecian foray. Here are some of the especially good ones.
Arrakis
Ammu Dia is their most recent release and it’s available on CD if you need the physical medium. The title track particularly caught my attention as it is almost math rock in substance. It has an almost metal sound happening that reminds me of Rodan. I really quite easily could have clumped some of Arrakis’ material in with last week’s post-rock post. But here it is.
Now, this band is all in on the psychadelic with a strong metal influence. They are really quite good, but more purely psychadelic than Arrakis.
And that’s all for now. There is of course more where this comes from. Just me roaming about in the interwebs trying to discern what kinds of good music Greece had to offer. Hopefully yinz enjoyed it.
Coming Next Week: September Focus on … where?
Here’s one to brighten your mood on this lovely Friday. It’d be easy to label “Palace of Love” new-wave and move on, but it really is more than the sum of its parts. Think early-80’s Sprinsteen meets The Stone Roses. Does that make any sense? Probably not in theory, but have a listen and I think you might agree.
Oh hey, time to post another track. Found this one a couple of weeks back. Appropriate, semi-ambient weirdness with some actual vocals. It’s really quite wonderful. And they are on tour too.
Well here’s something to completely offset the good vibes of yesterday’s post. “Night-Time Worker” sounds like a nihilistic, krautrocky take on Flipper’s “Sex Bomb”. One of the best songs I’ve heard in a good while. Evil sax is the best sax.
I went down the Saint Brooklynsburg rabbit hole one day. I really loved this album from the Ghost Hippies. We’ll get to Russia some day on the International Radio Shower i’m sure. Maybe it’ll be on the drunk radio shower.
I know the title says “Matt Annoys Jim”, but I’d really like to pretend I’m doing him a favor by cramming all of these songs into one post instead of spreading them out over the course of a few days. I’m nothing if not the ultimate compromiser. After the jump, a few more songs that have me tapping my feet, and will most likely have another certain poster to the blog rolling his eyes…
