I FUCKING LOVE THIS BAND.  Okay, I got that all caps yelling bullshit out of the way.  Here is some new Downtown Boys. They have an lp coming out soon, and this is the first single from it. Watch for the new LP on Don Giovanni.  The only totally sad thing is that they are touring with Screaming Females, but not when they reach Pittsburgh.  Sad.

Let’s go Outback tonight. There’s been a ton of great live albums being pumped out lately, especially from Third Man and Castleface. Polyvinyl is throwing their hat into the ring with Snare Lustrous Doomings, a live Of Montreal LP with a tracklisting that reads like a greatest hits album.

Hop Along is a band I haven’t heard before.  They have a new lp coming out on Saddle Creek Records, so I thought i’d give a listen to some of their stuff. I really like it. At first I wasn’t sure but I can’t stop listening. So I guess that’s a win.  They seem highly influenced by Cursive which isn’t a bad thing. Anyhow, here is a track.

It’s just about that time of year for Thee Oh Sees to inevitably drop a new LP. “Web” is off Mutilator Defeated at Last, out May 18th on John Dwyer’s own Castleface Records. If the rest of the album follows suit, it seems like it will be of the Carrion Crawler/The Dream variety of Oh Sees burners, as opposed to their more Kinks-ian leanings featured on last year’s Drop.

…and if you were curious as to how “Web” sounds live, I’ve got some good news for you! Check out the video below.

Looking to kill some time on a lazy Sunday? Settle in and watch this documentary on the Tuareg Desert Music Festival that took place near Timbuktu in 2011, just months before rebels overtook the area and began enforcing sharia law.
Once you’re done with the film and checking airfare to Bamako, why don’t you tune into the radio show tonight? We’re on 9PM til midnight every Sunday. 88.3FM if you’re in Pittsburgh, or streaming at www.wrct.org everywhere else in the universe.
You might have noticed my last few posts have mellowed out a bit, and that’s no real accident. A lot of that has to do with the impending sunshine and gradual lifting of grey that is springtime in Pittsburgh. Summer roadtrips are starting to get schemed and even my own music has taken a turn towards the more subtle as of late. That last point may be slightly related to my neighbor and I having differing definitions of the term “noise violation”, but I digress… All of this is to say that this song by Sam Prekop (he of Sea and Cake fame) and the accompanying visuals are pretty much exactly what’s going on inside my headspace right now.
