All posts for the month September, 2015

I’m having a lazy Friday off of work, so it seems like a perfect time to catch up on what everybody in Real Estate has been up to. Right? Right. Up above is “Northern Highway”, the first single off of Estater Martin Courtney’s solo debut Many Moons. It’s not far off from the music he’s making in his day job, maybe even more laid back, though. If that’s even possible.
Not to be outdone, resident Real Estate low-ender and professed Dead Head Alex Bleeker has a band of his own, the Freaks, and they’re preparing to release an LP of their own. Country Agenda will be out 10/16 on Sinderlyn Records, and “Sealong Hair” is a preview of what you can expect from it. Again, nothing too shocking from the perpetually chilled bassist. “Hair” carries a bit of a pastoral 70’s folk vibe, like something that was written around a campfire.
Still haven’t had enough Real Estate? Then I’d remind you that Courtney’s and Bleeker’s bandmate Matt Mondanile’s Ducktails put out another full length recently, which I wrote about right over here.

Some new music from Haybaby. This is well worth the listen. The strong female vocals work well with the guitar ensembling. Yes, I make up words.

ps. Drunk Radio Shower is back tonight. Poland will be in play. Stay Tuned. 8pm.

I’m putting this up a bit late today, but I’m making up for my lack of punctuality with an excess of noise. If you’ve ever heard Coliseum and thought “Gee, this is great, but I wish it was even more loud and nihilistic”, I’ve got great news for you. Yautja counts Coliseum members among its numbers, but this beast reminds me more of Trap Them or the dirgier sounding bands on Deathwish than the typical Louisville hardcore scrape one might expect.

I’ve enjoyed a few Bat for Lashes songs here and there, but I’m especially excited to see Natasha Khan going all in on weirdness with her new Sexwitch project, which is a collaboration with psych nutjobs TOY.

I’m a little late getting today’s post up. But I shall make up for that by finding the most amount of words in the band name and song title. There is so much music out there. So this is a new discovery for me and i’m really enjoying this. Maybe it’s the weird chase scene in the cover art. But i’m pretty sure it’s the hybrid Mount Eerie/Built to Spill thing I’m sensing herein. Give it a listen. It’s large in sound, somewhat epic in scope, and really comforting.

Mark McGuire definitely has an identifiable sound, that’s for sure. But nobody could accuse him of phoning in any of his innumerable releases. On “Earth: 2015” he runs his smooth synth processed guitar tones through an apocalyptic wringer. It’s a song I could imagine soundtracking a futuristic car chase in some low budget sci-fi movie. And if the song piques your interest but you’re on the fence about actually buying the record, just know that packaging for the Beyond Belief  LP is absolutely beautiful:

I like Vacation and I like this tune. This song came to my attention at an appropriate time as I seemed to start randomly stumbling across songs about police abuse all at the same time as it was growing as a national issue. Because, it should be a national issue until it’s stopped.
