Today’s Random Album of the Day is Wish I was In Heaven Sitting Down from R.L. Burnside. This is straight up blues music.

I really like good blues music and this is that. So glad I have this in my collection. I’m no expert in Blues but I appreciate it and enjoy it. R.L. Burnside has that sort of older blues sound. There is a more modern sound I don’t always love. But this I absolutely adore. This album is just really good.

There is something about the raw guitar and vocals that evokes early blues sounds. “Too Many Ups” starts a departure from this sound but is also an enjoyable song. This track is more modern but it works. It’s a bit funky. It’s got some nice horns. “Nothin’ Man” is more modern too but in a different way. Honestly there is a fair amount of variety on this album too.

“R.L.’s Story” is some serious talk. It’s basically him discussing all the people who’ve been killed in his life for a part of it. Then talking about his different moves around and such.

Favorite Track(s): Hard Time Killin’ Floor Blues or Miss Maybelle. Really this album is full of great songs but the early songs are the best!
