Today’s Random Album of the Day is O.Y. in Hi-Fi from Optiganally Yours. They are listed as Indie Pop.
This album is full of Beatles-inspired pop. All of the songs are good but nothing grabbed me. It is a consistent album and if you like overly poppy music you would really like this I’d think.
Rating: 7.0
Favorite Track(s): I thought it was all reasonably good but at the same time nothing stood out for me.
Keep or Trash: Trash. I wasn’t feeling it.
Continue ReadingToday’s Random Album of the Day is Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives from Voxtrot. They are an Indie Rock or Indie Pop outfit.
First of all, I love the name Voxtrot. Very clever. Overall I think this is solid music but I didn’t personally love it. It doesn’t grab me the way I want it to. Such is life. This probably works for others but not for me.

Favorite Track(s): “Mothers, Sisters. Daughters & Wives” is a solid indie song.

Continue ReadingToday’s Random Album of the Day is How to Land a Plane from 7ebra. This is an Indie Pop band from Malmo, Sweden.
I love this band! They mess around with harmonies in a very effective way. And are just a delight to listen to. And this is a brand new album having just been released one week ago!
Their albums just flow very well. They are also very nice to sing along to (though I don’t know the words to this new album yet). This album seems to have more guitar emphasis and less keyboard emphasis than their debut album.
As it’s new it’ll take me some time to figure out my favorite parts and they will shift over time. But I am excited for the excuse to give it another listen as the Random Album of the Day!!!

Favorite Track(s): I love the melody and harmonizing to “Dinner and a Movie”. “I Have to Buy Stuff” has a great guitar riff. “Normal Song” is great harmonizing. Very catchy. I like every song on this album. Those are just a few standouts.
Keep or Trash: Keep. I love this so much and its already in my regular mix.
Continue ReadingToday’s Random Album of the Day is Gilded Stars and Zealous Hearts from Velocity Girl. Velocity Girl is somewhere between Indie Rock and Indie Pop – or both. I’ve been a fan since college which was a long time ago.
My wife says they sound like the Go-Gos. Which I guess I can see. They have this poppy sound but it also borders Shoegaze a bit and Indie Rock too. If it was any poppier I would probably not be a big fan. But it falls into a nice niche where it is. Not every song is a banger of course. But they are pretty consistently solid.
Rating: 9.1
Favorite Track(s): “Nothing” really works for me. “Just Like That” is good jangly fun. “Go Coastal” is indie rock fun. “Zealous Heart” is more emo jangly goodness. I Liked “The Only Ones” too. I also liked “Formula 1 Throwaway”. I liked “One Word” too.
Keep or Trash: Keep. I should listen to them more…
Continue ReadingToday’s Random Album of the Day is Hyacinths and Thistles from The Kyle Sowashes. This is considered Indie Pop – maybe Chamber Pop. To put it most succinctly I’ll quote Wikipedia: “The 6ths was a band created by Stephin Merritt, also the primary songwriter and instrumentalist behind the Magnetic Fields, the Gothic Archies, and Future Bible Heroes.”
There are definitely some interesting things going on here. I can see why they are listed as Chamber Pop. On “Oahu” though the little sparkly sound at the end goes on for way too long. And I mean WAY too long. Then my favorite song followed by a pretty song and then a weird one. As my wife said, “These guys are all over the map, wow!” And they really are. It’s sort of a strange album. I’d say this almost has an experimental edge to it. It could be considered Art Pop.
Rating: 7.7. Although it has some bangers, overall I felt this album was more okay than great.
Favorite Track(s): “You You You You You” is a long time favorite of mine…

Continue ReadingToday’s Random Album of the Day is Fearless from June Bug. They are listed on Rate Your Music as folk but they aren’t really folky at all. Maybe experimental. Or Indie Pop.
Anyhow I really like this. They mix some synths with strong vocals and amplifications. Describing it is a bit hard, but they also do some harmonizing and have good melodies.
Rating: 9.5
Favorite Track(s): “Dusk” is both chill and appealing. “Rollercoaster” is so tantalizing. “Bite Me” is poppy but good. “Fearless” is fantastic!

Continue ReadingToday’s Random Album of the Day is vand, død & ensomhed from Himmelrum. It’s listed as rock on Rate Your Music but honestly it’s more of a Danish Indie Pop. They self identify as Rock, Ambient, Shoegaze, and synaesthesia. I don’t really see the shoe gaze. I’d still say Indie Pop.
I didn’t really like this album at all. Not to my tastes. One song got weird in a good way. The music is fine, just not my kind of fine.

Favorite Track(s): “Usynlige” got nice and weird. “Nerve” is ok.

Continue ReadingToday’s Random Album of the Day is Real Close Ones from The Ms. The Ms are Indie Rock or Pop. They also get a neo-psychedelic tag on Rate Your Music which they seem to throw around rather loosely. Though it does kind of fit here at times. So maybe it’s always apt.
Overall, this is more of a mellow indie pop album with some upbeat moments. It’s pretty good or good-ish. I don’t think it’ll ever be at the top of my rotation but good is good. I’ll say this – these guys definitely like the Beatles. The influence is obvious. My wife points out the Grateful Dead influence. That makes sense. They are so close to being really good is what we both said but we concluded they were just good-ish. I certainly understand if someone likes them a lot. I won’t judge yah!

Favorite Track(s): “Like a Cloud” has a good poppy anthemic feel to it. “Days in the Sun” makes me think they like the Beatles but it’s a solid song. Actually that’s a thing through the album. “Impossible View” is good. “Papers” is solid. “Breakfast Score” is maybe the best song on the album. “Big Sound” is a contender though. The album finishes strong.
Keep or Trash: Keep. Mainly because I like to keep the digital music for the vinyl that I have and I believe I have this on vinyl.
Continue ReadingToday’s Random Album of the Day is 010 from Ulysses. Ulysses is considered slacker rock or indie pop. It’s a side project of Apples in Stereo singer and keyboardist. They just have this one album I think. I’m not totally sure but I actually like this better than Apples in Stereo which is interesting.
So yeah I do like this. It’s plain indie rock to me. Pretty simple and enjoyable. Also good to sing along to.
Rating: 9.3
Favorite Track(s): “Television” just works for me with both its lyrics and melody. “Burning You” has good sing along ability. “Castles in Spain” also makes me want to belt it out. “Evening Star” is another good catchy tune.
