Today’s Random Album of the Day is another Daytrotter Session. This one from Kevin Seconds. Kevin is probably mostly known for his band 7 Seconds. But here is doing singer songwriter type material.
This is solid stuff. It definitely has a troubadour-ish sound. Honestly I’d probably love these songs if the lyrics were more protest oriented. It feels like this sound should be that. But it isn’t protest oriented here. Which isn’t to say it’s not good, because it is good. Enjoyable in fact.
Rating: 8.5
Favorite Track(s): “New and Beautiful” is so joyful
Keep or Trash: Delete. When all I have from an artist is their Daytrotter I’m tempted to delete but this is good enough to keep. But I deleted it anyhow because I don’t see me listening to this much.
You can hear his Daytrotter Session at this link. But it’s not embeddable so here is his album from around that time.

Today’s Random Album of the Day is Jane Doe Loves Me from Experimental Dental School. They are noise rock but get experimental at times. The closing song is quite experimental in fact. They can be quite genre bending actually.
I really like Experimental Dental School (aka XDS). Their sound is sometimes chaotic in a good way. Rock and roll at its heart though. With driving guitars and sometimes droning synths. Lots of shifting rhythms and melodies in songs. I love how every song shifts and meanders. Jen really liked what he heard though she couldn’t listen to the whole album.
Rating: 9.8
Favorite Track(s): “Jane Doe Loves Me” helps hook me right from the start with its shifting between chaos and melodies, “Obscene Back Porch Floating” because good, “Whale Drone” is so good with its high pitched noises balancing against the rhythms and melodies, “What Ghosts See” helps show off the keyoard, “Uh Huh – Na Uh” just floats along and has this nice tilting to it, “Lord’s Lap” adds some great heaviness to their sound, “Plant Plenty” is a great song with lots of things going on. I basically just listed most songs.
Keep or Trash: Keep. I love this album. And I discovered with this they have a newer album I have to check out.

Today’s Random Album of the Day is The Witch’s Dagger from Veronica Lipgloss and the Evil Eyes. This is a classic album and I love it. They are considered either post punk or art punk apparently. I guess that fits. They are loud, feature horns, and just overall I find them delightful.
Jen could not listen along today as we are preparing for company. But being disabled I just needed to rest after a long board gaming session yesterday so listening fits with my schedule. I was instantly excited with the die results.
This album has really good energy!
Rating: 9.6
Favorite Track(s): “Let Me See Your Eyes” for its epicness, “Bleed to the Beat” for its aggressive repetition, “Like Lead” is an old favorite of mine, “Driving Thru The Rain” made my top 50 rain songs
Keep or Trash: Keep. I love this album. Too bad it’s their only full length album.

Today’s Random Album of the Day is Fleuve from Ă” Paon. This is music from Geneviève CastrĂ©e who I am sad to report passed away in 2016. Her music is considered Indie Folk or “Avant-folk”. Singer Songwriter fits too. She was only 35 years old. Very sad.
Her music is good but definitely avant garde. It is very lovely without always being exactly catchy. Geneviève had a great voice in my opinion and such a creative musical mind. This album really works for me.
“Fille TannĂ©e” gives me a bit of a Mount Eerie feel – which is appropriate since she was married to Phil Elverum of Mount Eerie. That’s more of a sidetone but worth mentioning.
I somehow adore that this is mostly in French. For one because that would probably irritate conservative losers. Maybe more than a little because it is fitting with us drinking out of Bastille mugs this morning (our anniversary is on Bastille Day so we’re preparing for the wonders of it all!).
Anyhow, overall great album. I need to listen to this more. Though it does make me sad knowing she died it’s nice to also recognize her great talent.
Rating: 9.8
Favorite Track(s): “rive-sud” for its uniqueness. “fille tanĂ©e” for its melody. This song is actually very awesome. “blue/fleuve ii” gives me chills in a good way. I get excited at its intro. “Trandscanadienne” is just so good. I think I missed another great one while I was multi-tasking. “BouĂ©e” because good. And I could list nearly every song…
Keep or Trash: Keep. I love this EP. Even if I didn’t I doubt I could delete it. But I love it so there.

Today’s Random Album of the Day is bee belly from saoirse. This is an indie folk band from Oakland, CA. I didn’t remember that I had this but I’m so glad I do have it.
This is really good. The singer’s voice draws me right in. And the guitar play is a perfect accompaniment. Overall I just find this short EP to be overwhelmingly pleasant.
It’s really enjoyable when the Random Album of the Day is something I forgot existed and which I find to be very good. I believe the last song is a cover.
Rating: 9.5
Favorite Track(s): “haircut”, “paper chain”, “grocery store”, “mountain kids by cayetana”
Keep or Trash: Keep. Wow do I love this!

Today’s Random Album of the Day is a Daytrotter Session from Quieting Syrup. This is straight up Indie Rock.
I feel like I like this more than I expected to. It was pleasant and melodic in a very minimalist way. Just simple low key rock music. Note heavy guitars with understated vocals.
Rating: 8.0
Favorite Track(s): “Mary, My Wife” and “Stars Still Save Me”
Keep or Trash: Keep. I waffled on this but I kind of liked it.
As per usual, the Daytrotter session itself is not available to stream but most of the songs are on this album.

Today’s Random Album of the Day is Novelty from Jawbox. I honestly never listen to this but there is no particular reason. This album is considered post-hardcore or alternative rock.
This is solid music. Some nifty guitar riffs in this. Occasionally hard hitting, sometimes inventive instrumentation, and overall good music. Not every song was great, but I liked it overall.
Rating: 8.8
Favorite Track(s): Cutoff, Static
Keep or Trash: Keep. Definitely worth keeping.

Today’s Random Album of the Day is Westkust from Westkust. So a self-titled LP from 2019. Westkust is a Swedish Shoegaze or Noise Pop band that I do really like and I listen to this quite often so there is that. They hail from Göteborg, Sweden, one of the places we stopped on our honeymoon. So we like that too.
This has nice layered guitars overlayed with beautiful femme vocals. And that pretty much always works for me. As does noise pop as a sound. I like it.
Rating: 9.7
Favorite Track(s): Swebeach, Rush, etc… The album is very consistent and I like most songs.
Keep or Trash: Keep. I am a fan.
