Today’s Random Album of the Day is Trans Day of Revenge from G.L.O.S.S. And yes, after the Trump Administration this should become a National Holiday. Anyhow, G.L.O.S.S. is a Hardcore Punk band.
And they rock. They are really good. And I love that they are basically a radical trans band. I bought this after their other EP came up on the Random Album of the Day a few weeks back…

Favorite Track(s): “Give Violence a Chance” is not my normal means of operation as a non-violent activist but it’s a kick ass song. “Out From The Desk” also rips! And shreds! And tears shit up! “Fight” continues the awesomeness that is this album. “We Live” and “Trans Day of Revenge” also tear. Very good album!
Today’s Random Album of the Day is Probably Music from Young Trynas. This is Punk Rock or Hardcore Punk, Young Trynas features The Sneaks’ bassist if you know them. They then reform with everyone but the bassist into Flasher which I’ll have to check out.
Anyhow love the raw energy here. “Fuck your money” is damned right. Gets your energy up! This has good aggressive discordant energy. Love all of it! My wife loved it too!

Favorite Track(s): “$” is just great. “Control” is more haunting but works. “Be Gone” really grinds. I absolutely love the chaos of “I Love You”.
Today’s Random Album of the Day is Casual Goths from Finally Punk. This is a compilation album of their material. Finally Punk is an “Art Punk” band from Austin, TX. I quite enjoy them. Their songs are short. Very short, typically coming in under one minute long.
I enjoy this album. Adequate noise and they seem to be having a lot of fun making this music too. The lyrics are silly as much as anything usually. “Jazz Hit” is about making a sandwich mostly. That’ pretty typical. And in fact people who know me know that I quite enjoy it this kind of thing…
They have such a fun aggressive angular sound. It’s really quite enjoyable to me.

Today’s Random Album of the Day is a split record with two artists: Hi Ho Silver Away! and Quick Attack. The album is titled Quick Silver Attack Away!
The first half of the album is Hi Ho Silver, Away! And it’s basically pop punk – but pop punk I basically like I guess. Somehow I worry the lyrics are cringe but I won’t catch most of them on the first listen. The music has an emo feel which works for me. The ‘sweetheart’ on “Fence Sitter” I could do without for reasons. But mostly I thought they had a lot of potential. They have a sort of leaning toward an anthemic sound that could really work but maybe here doesn’t quite get to where I want it to.
The second half of the album is Quick Attack. More straightforward and a bit more punk. I like their song-writing. The songs tend to evolve and grow as they go. Or at least some do. And they have a bit more punk in them.
On the whole I feel like Quick Attack helped carry this album though I think I found it through Hi Ho Silver Away! originally. I think maybe I liked their band name and that was enough to pull me in initially.
Rating: 8.0 overall. I’d probably 8.5 Quick Attack and 7.5 for Hi Ho Silver Away!
Favorite Track(s):Hi Ho Silver Away!: “You Know About Stag Beetles??” starts off the album well. Not sure about the lyrics. “Shred the Gnar” I liked. Feels a bit emo in a good way. “20 Miles Per Gallon” had a nice anthemic for the disillusioned feel. “Sand for Sandbags” actually had a nice Uncle Tupelo feel. Quick Attack: “Champion of Vines” is appealing but I can’t put my finger on why. But it isn’t static. It weaves and evolves as a song. “Smash the State Street” is an odd title but the song seems fun. Reminds me of Harry and the Potters without the book based lyrics. I just like the title of “Artistoked”. The music is solid too. I Like “Drench Refrains” for its simple punk thing. “Regina” sounds good. I like that they seem to be having a lot of fun.
The Random Album of the Day is The Eye from K.U.K.L.. This is a 1980s Icelandic punk or perhaps more post-punk band featuring Bjork. And her presence is obvious on this record. And the sound should feel overall familiar since 4 of 5 members are also in the Sugarcubes. So there is a lot of familiarity in fact.
This is a good post-punk record. It has an experimental edge to it which really works for me. This is almost more experimental rock really. Which is not surprising given those involved. It is good to know these folks were making good and weird music before the Sugarcubes.

Favorite Track(s): “Let Us Get Rid of the Bomb” because we should get rid of all the bombs honestly. “Blackeye” for good use of the flute followed by a good haunting tone, “Assassin” for its New Wave sounds, “Spire” is just a good tune, “Dismembered” has a good tilting thing going on. Honestly I would have expected less good tracks but this is a good record.
Today’s Random Album of the Day as The Blackest Eye, an EP from Aye Nako. They are queer punkers from New York City featuring a couple of California exports from Fleabag.
They were active from 2010 to 2017ish. This EP dates from 2015 and has very good, mature indie punk sounds. I suppose I feel more of a Indie Rock sound. Edgy without being overly noisy. And who doesn’t love a queer punk act? Besides loser bigots.
Their music is slightly aggressive without losing good melodies. The vocals are underemphasized in a good way. Over-emphasis on vocals can be a mistake unless you are making vocals-based pop or something like that. Though sometimes I also think the vocals are too buried so there is that.
They also use good stop and go techniques at times. Something that has always worked for me. Overall, love this album! Love their sound! It was also popular with my wife!

Keep or Trash: Keep. Honestly I need more of their material in our collection. Will work on that when funds allow. In the meantime we do have this EP on vinyl which is nice.
