Following yesterday’s magic carpet ride, let’s listen to some psych that leans more towards Tame Impala’s earlier days with Sunflower Bean.
First off, let me mention that this video isn’t safe for work unless your boss is into some weird shit.
Anywho, apologies for my lack of post yesterday. I got busy and somehow wound up in NYC. Not that I’m complaining about that at all. Then I went here! And saw Kim Gordon help cover “Sister Ray”! And watched Lee Ranaldo play “Eric’s Trip” with Parquet Courts as his backing band! And about a half dozen other relatively cool things! All in all, not bad for a day that started off working in Philly.
Somehow, Animal Collective have managed to write their most Beach Boys-esque song to date without sounding a bit like anything that came out of Panda Bear’s Brian-Wilson-worship-era Person Pitch output.
PINS put out a really underrated LP earlier in the year. The video for “Got It Bad” is as good a reminder as any to go back and revisit it.
Kedr seems to be on just the right amount of drugs for this one.
Did somebody say Swedish garage rock? Allow me to throw Sudakistan’s hat into the mix.
Providence’s Atlantic Thrills put out an enjoyable slab of sunny garage psych on their self-titled album last year. “Vices” is a good reminder of what they can do when they’re locked in.
Laid back.
